Budget Process
The Budget is a financial plan for the fiscal year that runs from October 1 through September 30 of each year. This budget plan, along with the mission statement, core values, and major goals for the Districts, gives guidance to departments in their daily operations and provides residents with a basic outline of the direction that each District plans to pursue.
Development of the budget is a year-round process. However, departments begin the actual preparation of their line-item budgets in March. During the months of April and May, several public budget workshops are held to provide the Boards and the residents the opportunity to discuss and provide input into the development of the budget.
The requested budgets are reviewed and analyzed by Administration and then the District Manager recommends a Proposed Budget to the District Boards. The Proposed Budgets must be approved by June 15th per Florida Statutes during the regular Board meetings. The Proposed Budgets are sent to the necessary jurisdictions for a 60-day review and are also available for public review at the Districts’ Administration Offices and on this website.
The Final Budgets must be approved by the District Boards by September 15th per Florida Statutes following a public hearing during the regular September Board meetings. Final Adopted Budgets are available on this website. Budget Adjustments are made throughout the year and priorities change as unexpected costs occur.
